One of the main reasons I decided to study in Barcelona was being a fan of FC Barcelona since I was eight years old.
I’ve been following the club for almost twenty years at the time, and was looking for the top cities in Europe to study business administration.
I guess I was lucky that my favorite club represents one of the best cities on earth to study business, with two MBA programs at IESE and ESADE listed on the top 15 MBAs globally, I knew it was the perfect destination for me.
When I landed in Barcelona for the first time, a city in which I know no one and never visited before, I just wanted to go and see the famous Camp Nou, the historical stadium of FC Barcelona, which is also the biggest football stadium in Europe.
In my first day in the city, I went to my residence and then found out that my Business School was walking distance, so I decided it made sense to go to school first.
In my second day, I had my first ever Public Transportation experience in Barcelona, and I made it to the Camp Nou.
It was a magical experience, I went live of Facebook to show my friends and family back home that I made it, I’m actually standing in front of the stadium of the club that I’ve been following my whole life, it was surreal.
Two weeks after landing in Barcelona, I had the opportunity to go and watch my first-ever match inside the Camp Nou, I was going to watch Messi and Suarez and Neymar playing Live! I was going to watch Iniesta and Busquets and Pique and Daniel Alves and Ter Stegen!!
I actually couldn’t believe it, and the cherry on top of my cake was that the visiting team was coached by my idol, the one and only Pep Guardiola!
I went to that FC Barcelona – Manchester City match on 19-10-2016 with a friend. Messi decided to give me a warm welcome, by scoring a hat-trick.
Two minutes before the end of that match, my friend told me it would be better to leave the stadium now, to avoid the traffic caused by almost 100,000 spectators leaving the stadium at the end, so we left, and didn’t watch Neymar’s last minute goal. The game ended with FC Barcelona winning 4-0, what a game!
Since that day, I’ve kept watching FC Barcelona’s matches and following the team as I’ve always done, and had the opportunity to watch many other matches inside the Camp Nou, my total so far is around 10 live matches, I feel blessed.
The atmosphere in Barcelona on days of big games is unmatchable, the whole city is as crazy as I am about football and about their team, it is definitely my football heaven!
One unforgettable day was the day of the greatest “remontada” in the history of the Champions League, when FC Barcelona came back from a 0-4 defeat against PSG and won 6-1 in the Camp Nou.
It is very hard to explain how the city of Barcelona was that night, but feels like the inside of a passionate fan’s head when his team does the impossible, something you can’t ever forget.
